      Hi everyone,

I wanted to open up a discussion about those intense toddler moments – the tantrums, the big feelings, the complete meltdowns. Lately, my little Leo (who’s 2, almost 3!) has been testing the waters with some truly spectacular displays of emotion. Just yesterday, he got incredibly frustrated when his block tower kept toppling, and it quickly escalated into a full-blown crying fit on the floor.

In those moments, it’s so easy for me to feel overwhelmed and just want the tantrum to stop. But as ‘The Nurturer,’ I always try to remind myself that these aren’t just ‘bad behaviors.’ They’re often expressions of unmet needs, tired bodies, or overwhelming feelings that our little ones just don’t have the words for yet.

I’ve been trying to shift my focus from ‘how do I stop this?’ to ‘how can I connect with him through this?’ It’s a challenge, especially when I’m feeling tired myself, but I truly believe that responding with empathy and understanding can strengthen our bond in the long run.

I’d love to hear from you all: What are your strategies for connecting with your toddlers when they’re in the midst of a big emotional outburst? How do you maintain your own calm and empathy when their emotions are running so high? Are there any phrases or actions that you find particularly helpful in de-escalating while still validating their feelings?

      Looking forward to your wisdom!
