Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a small, unexpected moment I had with my Little Bean (he’s almost 3) the other day that really warmed my heart.
We were cuddled up on the couch on a rainy afternoon, watching a very simple animated show about a little fox who couldn’t find his favorite red ball. I’m always a bit hesitant about screen time and try to be intentional with it, but this felt like a sweet, quiet way to connect.
As the little fox started to look sad, I saw my Little Bean’s face scrunch up with concern. He pointed to the screen and whispered, “Fox is sad. Lost his ball.” I was so surprised by his focus. We paused it, and I asked him if he ever felt sad like the fox. He immediately brought up a time last week when he misplaced his favorite blue block and how it made his “tummy feel funny.”
It was such a gentle, unexpected doorway into his inner world. The cartoon wasn’t just a passive distraction; it became a shared story that gave him the words and the space to talk about a big feeling. It reminded me that connection can be found in the most surprising places.
It made me wonder – have any of you experienced something similar? A time when a show or a movie wasn’t just background noise, but actually helped you connect with your child’s feelings in a way you didn’t expect? Would love to hear your stories.
